El I3A es un instituto de investigación de la Universidad de Zaragoza que trabaja en la generación de conocimiento y tecnologías relacionadas con la ingeniería, transmitiéndolas a la Sociedad mediante la transferencia tecnológica, la educación y la diseminación de nuestras actividades. Con una orientación completa a la I+D+i, distribuímos nuestra actividad en cuatro grandes áreas de trabajo.

• La División de Ingeniería Biomédica está interesada en aquellas tecnologías que ayudan a mejorar la salud humana y la calidad de vida. En particular, esta división está involucrada en el desarrollo de nuevos biomateriales y las tecnologías de ingeniería de tejidos, el modelado del cuerpo humano con un interés especial en el Humano Fisiológico Virtual (VPH) y la biomecánica. Por último, existe un gran interés en el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías e instrumentos aplicados a los problemas de salud de las personas con discapacidad o de edad avanzada.
• La División de TIC coordina y lleva a cabo estudios y programas de investigación en el amplio campo de las nuevas tecnologías de información y comunicación y su interrelación con la sociedad del conocimiento. Las áreas de interés de la zona son las tecnologías de computación avanzadas y sistemas embebidos inteligentes, infraestructuras, tecnologías y servicios de comunicaciones, tecnologías audiovisuales y multimedia, interfaces avanzadas y robótica.
• La investigación en la División de Procesos y Reciclado se centra en soluciones de ingeniería para la mejora del medio ambiente y la sostenibilidad. Para lograr este objetivo, la División de P&R dedica sus esfuerzos a la relación entre energía y fuentes sostenibles, tecnologías del hidrógeno, la minimización y el reciclaje de los residuos y las tecnologías agroalimentarias.
• Por último, la nueva División de Tecnologías Industriales se propone explorar las tecnologías clave para el desarrollo de las fábricas del futuro, con un interés en la electrónica (potencia, comunicaciones y microelectrónica), la fotónica, la logística, el transporte, los nuevos materiales, diseño estructural, fabricación avanzada y metrología.

Además, el I3A también se ocupa de las tecnologías y conocimientos relacionados con varias iniciativas clave de I + D, así como aspectos clave en I+D como la innovación, el espíritu empresarial y las políticas de transferencia de tecnología.The I3A is a research institute of the University of Zaragoza working in the generation of knowledge and technology related to engineering and its transmission to the Society by means oftechnology transfer, education and dissemination of our activity. It has four divisions:

• The Biomedical Engineering Division is a clear example of the multidisciplinary approach of the I3A, as it brings together specialists in Biology, Medicine, Physics, Mathematics and Engineering who cooperate to develop technological applications to improve human health and quality of life. Current technologies for patient diagnosis, monitoring, therapy, surgery and solutions to help the disabled involve most fields of engineering. The emergence of the knowledge society, building on the pervasive influence of modern information and communication technologies, is bringing about a fundamental reshaping of our modern society.
• The Information and Communication Technologies división of the I3A coordinates and conducts studies and research programs in the vast field of new information and communication technologies and their interrelationship with the knowledge society Broad lines of the activities: Advanced computing technologies and smart embedded systems;  Infrastructures, technologies and services for communications; ICT for digital content and creativity : audio-visual technologies and multimedia; Advanced interfaces and robots.
• The Processes and Recycling Division focuses mainly on aspects related with the exploitation of renewable resources both energy and material and with the minimization, reuse and recycling of wastes in the search for the sustainability of the welfare and the environment. The specific research areas include Energy and environment, Hydrogen technologies, Waste reduction and recycling, Agro-food technologies.
• The Industrial Technologies Division is the response of the I3A to bring together the research made in technologies that have application in the Factories of the Future. The productive model in European countries has to change to face the challenges of the global competition, and it is necessary to develop technologies able to boost the competitiveness of our productive sector. The specific research areas include Power electronics, Automotive, Production technologies, Logistics and Photonics.
